Advice: Do you think my holding back could cause him to leave me?

Originally posted June 25, 2001

My boyfriend and I have a lot of fun together and really like eachother.(It seems perfect) But I won't let myself get too serious because I'm afraid of being hurt. He tells me to just let go and stop holding back my feelings, let myself fall for him. But I can't, I find myself trying really hard to not fall for him. I think that if I fall for him I will run away. Anyway, the point: From a guys point of view, do you think that my holding back could cause him to leave me? Thank You...Love you guys

He's probably just telling you to relax so he can get into your pants. Then, once he's had his way with you, he's going to just leave you. Sadly, that's how all men work.

  • Stasiek:

Don't be silly. There is NO way that pushing your boyfriend away, being affraid to get close, and being afraid of a relationship, will end the relationship.
He'll stick around forever, no matter how you feel or how much of a rag you're being.
This has MARRIAGE written all over it.

That makes a whole lot of sense. Your lucky this guy is still giving you the time of day after all your bullshit. You have to be socially retarded to believe yourself. Listen, everybody has to take their lumps, and if you are so afraid of being hurt, you will never find the man you want.

  • Janek:

Your fear will likely lead to one failed relationship after another. Trust is very important in a relationship, and you aren't able to trust people.

You should see a therapist to discover exactly why you have this fear, and to find a way to overcome it.
